Create
Table Of Contents
A Table of Contents will be inserted at the beginning of the book and tells the readers what topics are included in the book and what page they is that information.
Each line of information that you want to have included in the Table of Contents must have the Heading 1 or the Heading 2 or the Heading 3 (up to Heading 9) style applied to that text.
1. The
first thing we need to do is to show the STYLES
task pane on the right side of the Word document
2. To do
this:
3. HOME tab
4. STYLES tab
5. Click
the DIALOG BOX LAUNCHER ![]()
6. In the
bottom right corner of the STYLES task
pane click the
7. Options… button
8. Click
the down arrow next to Select styles to show:
9. Choose All
styles
10. Click ok
11. Now you
must go through the document “mark” each line of text you want to have in your
table of contents:
12. Select
the text (or word) you want included in the Table of Contents
13. On the
rights of the screen in the STYLES task
pane
14. Click HEADING 1 (view image below)

15. Go
through the entire document and repeat these steps for each line of text you
want to include in the Table of Contents (Heading 2 through Heading 9 styles
indent a bit when creating the Table of Contents.
